Life is like a roller coaster: it has its ups and downs

Writing this blog after a gap of two weeks. The first week was a busy festival week. The second week was a vacation to a Yoga retreat. After this 2-week hibernation, coming back to work on my startup felt like joining a new organization. Everything looks new and unfamiliar. Thankfully these feelings subsided after working for the first hour.
There are 2 experiences or thoughts I would like to share in this post. First is when my yoga retreat time was coming to an end. I felt scared to come back to my regular life. From the days when you are spending your time on known yoga practices and natural therapies to come back to the unknown of your startup. But one cannot stay in such retreats for a longer duration as it is too costly. Also, one should be courageous enough to face life and not hide away in other places.
My second experience was this Saturday when it felt like a normal working day. I had worked with corporates for about 20 years. In my employment days, the weekends felt so liberating. From Friday afternoon I used to smell the weekend fragrance. By the way, many such sweet-smelling weekends turned out to be working weekends. But still, there were clear boundaries between a working week and a weekend.
Nowadays, I forcefully take Sundays off. My mind still wants to work on Sundays, but I tell it to switch off. This is an interesting change for me that has come so swiftly in my work life. I do not wait for weekends, but life feels more in control these days. I can shut off my work anytime to take care of my personal work. Maybe WFH is also the reason behind this easy switch-on and switch-off mode. But still, no pressure from bosses for a deadline or meetings is a liberating feeling.
I have read hundreds of posts about a startup being a roller coaster journey. There is no doubt about its truth. But we also must acknowledge that the journey gives us much more control. It is like we are operating this roller coaster. This is different from our employment days, where you are made a roller coaster and someone else rides on you. I am smiling at this metaphor now.
