My first vacation in my startup journey

No office disturbances or rather no ego shots

Picture taken during my trip

Every week, I write an article to share my learning or discovery during my startup journey. Here is the link to my reasons for penning these articles for myself and for many others like me.

I went for a week vacation last week. This time vacations felt a lot different than other times. Unlike previous vacations - I did not have emails to check, slack notifications to read every now and then, or skype messages from some customers for an urgent request.

Now I can only check my personal emails (if I want) to see the daily horoscope or some promotional emails, which is something a normal person would never do on a vacation.

I went with a group of solo travelers. There was a girl who kept getting phone calls from her office. She used to frown every time she received such calls and started cursing her co-workers. It was amusing to watch her as I used to behave in similar manner, while I was working with an organization. I used to feel irritated by such urgent requests from my colleagues during my vacation. But deep down, I used to feel a sweet satisfaction that I am needed by my colleagues or my boss. That feeling was my ego booster. Also, whenever I came back from vacation, my colleagues and boss used to welcome me, and used to spend about 10 minutes talking about my trip before we start discussing anything related to the meeting agenda.

Now when I returned from vacation and resumed work, there were no emails to answer, no office colleagues to ask about my trip. I straightaway picked up my work without any conversation about my great trip

All this makes my vacations much different than all other previous vacations. And surprisingly I loved this phase of no ego boosters during and after the vacation.

After some time, I will also join the entrepreneur herd, who are taking phone calls or reading messages more than any other daily activities.

Though I cannot predict the future, I want to feel the same way in all my future vacations. There should be no emails /slack/skype notifications. By the way, this does not mean that my business will not grow, or I will not have any team members or customers in my startup. It means that I will never become indispensable to my company. There will be systems and people in place who will be able to work without my constant guidance.

I will build that business model for my company. BUT till then, let me get back to my work to build my product and get more customers.

I hope to see this week with fading vacation memories and booming sales activities.

Please, feel free to leave comments below for thoughts, suggestions, and even feedbacks.
